This CD reissues one of the final band sessions led by the legendary swing pianist Teddy Wilson, who was more often heard in trios. Here, Wilson performs with an all-star sextet featuring trumpeter Harry \u201CSweets\u201D Edison, trombonist Vic Dickenson, Bob Wilber on clarinet and soprano, bassist Major Holley, and drummer Oliver Jackson. Rather than improvising freely over standards and rarities\u2014including \u201CHallelujah,\u201D \u201CAlice Blue Gown,\u201D \u201CJust Friends,\u201D and \u201CI\u2019ll Get By\u201D\u2014the group largely follows Bob Wilber\u2019s arrangements. Most tracks are concise (around three minutes), and some charts give the ensemble more of a dance-band feel than a jam-session spontaneity. While the music is less thrilling than one might hope, it contains many enjoyable moments.
