Royal Doulton

The Polka, launched in 1955, has been selected as a tribute to Peggy Davies to reflect her personal love of all forms of dance and in recognition of her ability to interpret and express graceful movements in her work. These qualities combined with the exquisite faces she modelled ensured the popularity of her figurines with collectors worldwide. The Polka dance originated in Bohemia and became popular throughout Europe in the 19th century. In this study Peggy Davies builds up the fluid movements of the dance through the swirling actions of the skirts whilst the pose of the dancer with her body tilted to one side and head to the other conveys the rhythm. The miniature icon recreates these elements of the original study along with details such as flowers to the front of the dress and the sweet expression on the dancer\u2019s face.\nThe limited edition HN Icons collection celebrates the centenary of Royal Doulton figures. As well as representing the most iconic sculptures of the past te.
