Marine-grade plywood has a finer grain and is harder and stronger than plywood.Marine plywood is not waterproof. However, to become marine-grade plywood, a waterproof glue has to be applied to each layer to prevent delamination. This enables it to be used in various outdoor structures.While a waterproof adhesive is used to seal together the wood it also needs to be treated to increase its lifespan and durability when coming into contact with moisture.To seal marine plywood follow these steps:Clean the plywoodUse either a soft cloth or a paper towel that has been dipped in acetone and wipe down the surface.Sand the surfaceBefore any treatment can begin you need to sand the plywood. Use 80-grit sandpaper to go over every side.Add the first coatUse a clear, penetrating epoxy that will soak into the wood as this will ensure it will dry transparent and will generally require less maintenance than other sealants.Apply more coatsGenerally, you should apply as many coats as there are layers. Scuff up the wood in-between each coat with sandpaper to ensure the next layer adheres to the surface.
