Retro 51 Smithsonian Tornado Rollerball Pen Spirit of St. Louis
Retro 51
As Retro 51 puts it, 'Life is too short to carry an ugly pen'. And we agree. Their bright colours and cool designs have more than a hint of nostalgia about them, and all their pens are made with good old-fashioned values in mind. The Smithsonian is a retractable rollerball featuring a lacquer-coated steel barrel in a range of designs inspired by the Smithsonian, the world's largest museum. There is a knurled metal twist-action button at the end, to extend the tip, and a slotted metal pocket clip. It's supplied in a themed cylinder which doubles as a pen stand as well as a protective case. On the morning of 20th May 1927, Charles Lindbergh took off from New York City for Paris in his Ryan NYP monoplane on what would become the first solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Over 33 hours and 3,600 miles later he landed in France to a roaring crowd. Lindbergh would later tour the US, Central and South America, and the Caribbean in the Spirit of St. Louis, where each country's flag was painted on the cowling. Its final flight was from St. Louis to Washington D.C. where Lindbergh presented the plane to the Smithsonian where it resides today. This latest Smithsonian Rollerball pen commemorates the plane's graphics. All details of the plane have been included by acid-etching and printing on the barrel. Complemented nicely by an antique looking trim. Refill with standard Parker style refills.
