The drum wasthe preferred method of delivering signals and movement on the battlefield as it was loud enough to be heard over the din of combat. On campaign a Grenadier drummer\u2019s rhythm would direct line infantry into various movements and formations during battle. Various rudiments played by a drummer were essentially specific calls of movement or commands for the Line Infantry or the Grenadiers.
