Colonel Friedrich von Wurmb was the regiment\u2019s commanding officer and, by all accounts, one of the army\u2019s better officers. Major Mackenzie of the British 23rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers wrote that Wurmb was \u201Cclear headed and cool\u201D and that his regiment was \u201Cthe best disciplined in the Hessian Corps.\u201D With the ruler of Hesse-Kassel\u2019s son Erbprinz Wilhelm at its head, the regiment was a favored unit in the Hessian Army.
