Jorge Ben | Samba Esquema Novo | Vinyl LP - Black
Lasgo
Jorge Ben's first full-length record, Samba Esquema Novo arrived in 1963 and already had the kind of easy confidence that would carry him through decades of Brazilian pop. It features the hit singles Mas Que Nada and Chove Chuva, and captures the light but propulsive rhythms that made Ben's early sound so immediate. Not yet stripped back to the more rock- and Afro percussive-driven style he would later develop, Samba Esquema Novo, which translates as New Style Samba, is full of swirling bossa nova rhythms and soaring choruses. The big-band-style accompaniment, set against Ben's signature minor-tone guitar work, gives the whole record an upbeat, warm and deeply enjoyable feel.
