Veuve Clicquot

Tasting Notes Veuve Clicquot's La Grande Dame celebrates Madame Clicquot, who famously used to say, "Our black grapes give the finest white wines". In honour of this statement, La Grande Dame 2015 offers a resplendent Pinot Noir, full of tension and elegance. Eschewing tradition, for this 2015 release - the 24th vintage since 1972 - Veuve Clicquot have collaborated with Italian designer, Paola Paronetto on a range of collectible gift boxes in a palette of oceanic blues, seafoam green and lavender that echo the logo on the bottle. The gift box colour will be chosen at random at checkout, and customers are unable to select their preferred colourway. The history of this famous Champagne house dates back to 1772 when Philippe Clicquot founded a wine-making business under the name Clicquot. In 1810 this was renamed Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin after the young widow Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin inherited the estate. Ever in pursuit of excellence and innovation, Madame Clicquot used her skills to develop an exceptional wine-growing territory and went on to establish what is today one of the most iconic names in Champagne. Veuve Clicquot's signature style is a fine and elegant balance between freshness and complexity. The nose is reminiscent of lilac, jasmine and acacia, evolving into crisp white fruits with zippy citrus zest, ground pepper and chalky hints of mineral. On the palate, the wine is powerful, well-structured and admirably vinous. La Grande Dame is perfect served on its own but can complement lightly cooked seafood, smoked ham, and crisp green salads.
