A pessary should only be inserted after the genital tract has been cleaned and replaced. Always use disposable gloves and obstetrical gel. To hold the pessary in place, attach it to the wool or place a tie around the ewe's girth to secure it to the pessary tie. It must be possible to expel the pessary during lambing. It is advisable to keep a close eye on ewes wearing a pessary to avoid lambing and delivery problems.
