Tasting Notes A Cuban rum from the Louis Vuitton-Moët-Hennessy is sure to make a stylish addition to any spirits collection. When the owners of Dom Pérignon Krug Ruinart Château d’Yquem Cheval Blanc Ardbeg Glenmorangie Belvedere Cloudy Bay and a veritable who’s who of fashion cosmetics and jewellery release a rum from Cuba you just know it’s going to set the standard in the chicest way imaginable. Crafted using Cuban sugarcane by the island’s youngest Maestro Ronero César Martí Eminente Reserva was inspired by the Cuban rums of the 19th Century. It was matured in whisky barrels for seven years and the combination of white oak and time have produced notes of coffee dulce de leche praline vanilla smoked peppercorn toffee chocolate-covered prunes gingerbread treacle sugared almonds poached pear and tobacco. As the latter flavour and its country of origin suggest this rum would make a fine choice for pairing with a cigar. We love to sip it neat or mix it into a Tapered Nail (this whisky influence works wonderfully) an Old Cuban Highball or a rum twist on an Old Fashioned. Alternatively combine Eminente Reserva Rum with Angostura Orange Bitters and a sweet red vermouth to create an exceptional Palmetto cocktail. Cuba is sometimes called ‘Isla del Cocodrillo’ by its inhabitants because the shape evokes the native animal. The eagle-eyed drinker will notice the Cuba-shaped reptile on the label and the crocodile skin texture of the bottle. We highly recommend snapping up this very croc ‘n’ roll new rum.
