The Merkava (Chariot) is an unusual MBT with an innovative design with specific attention to crew protection. To further this aim, the engine is located at the front of the tank and special attention has been given to increased frontal armour, the side skirts and track protectors, as well as the bulkheads between the crew and the fuel and ammunition.
