Nemasys Leatherjacket Nematodes provide a natural way to deal with leatherjackets in lawns. Leatherjackets are the underground larvae of crane flies, commonly known as daddy-long-legs, and they feed on grass roots which can lead to weak, thinning or yellow patches in turf. This pack treats lawns up to 100 square metres and uses beneficial nematodes to target leatherjackets in the soil. Once applied with water, the microscopic nematodes move through the soil and help reduce the larvae responsible for damaging grass roots. What are leatherjackets? Leatherjackets are grey-brown larvae that live below the soil surface and feed on the roots of grass plants. When infestations are present, lawns may become patchy or weak and can sometimes lift easily from the soil. Birds may also be attracted to the lawn as they search for the larvae. When to apply Nemasys Leatherjacket Nematodes The best time to treat leatherjackets is shortly after adult crane flies appear in late summer. The eggs they lay normally hatch within two weeks, and the young larvae begin feeding on grass roots soon after.
