Vitra Gold - Mug Coffee Mugs - China - Designer Alexander Girard
Vitra
Vitra Mug Gold Ceramic. Dimensions: Ø 8 x H 9.5 cm - Capacity: 30 cl. Alexander Girard, born in 1907 in New York, is one of the most important figures in post-war American design history, along with his close friends and colleagues George Nelson and Charles & Ray Eames. Girard's work focused primarily on Textile design, but he also distinguished himself as a graphic artist, furniture designer, set designer and interior designer. Girard brought a playful, seductive dimension to twentieth-century design that was lacking in the austere aesthetics of classical modernism. For several years, Vitra and the Vitra Design Museum have been dedicated to the reappraisal and revival of Alexander Girard's work. As an interior designer, Girard developed a number of concepts for restaurants that went far beyond color schemes and furniture to include details such as menu cards, Matchboxes, tableware and towels. The motifs featured on the Coffee Mugs found their origin and inspiration in the richness of these varied environments.
