DA conversion is taken care of by an AKM AK4490 Velvet Sound DAC converter while the 32-bit/768kHz resolution and DSD256 can literally handle anything you can throw at it. Enter the Matrix Normally, the left and right channels are fully separated when listening with a set of headphones, which can make it difficult to gain a good balance. Via the crossfeed matrix, a little bit of the left channel is fed through the left ear of the headphones and vice versa, resulting in a stereo image that comes way closer to that of a good set of speakers. In fact, with the Phonitor 3 you can even adjust the width and angle of your virtual speakers to give the audio image of your headphones an even more spatial dimension.
