Due to it's large caliber and high muzzle velocity, many allied AFVs were destroyed by 88mm rounds. In September of 1943 Britain's Cabinet of War submitted a request for a new cruiser tank to counter the threat.\nThis new tank was to be named the A41 and was required to be capable of surviving a head on impact from an 88mm round.
