a+u January 2024 Japan Magazine Architecture Urbanism Caruso St John Architects
Content\nThe February issue of \""a+u\"" will feature the work of Tatiana Bilbao Estudio. The Mexico-based firm was founded by Tatiana Bilbao in 2004. The firm has been in practice for nearly 20 years, focusing on understanding the framework of the community and social environment in which it designs, but without forgetting to play with aspects of scale, geometry, and materials. Works by the firm range from large-scale master plans and building designs (Culiacan Botanical Gardens, ESTOA-Universidad de Monterrey), to form manipulations in residential works (Casa Ajihik), and careful interventions inserted into existing communities (Rebuild Mexico in the Disaster Zone project). In his designs, Bilbao often deviates from conventional modes of expression, using collage to capture the multiple layers of context that the architect must mediate. The exhibition featured in this special issue is the culmination of the firm's research into public and private spaces. Through the design philosophy.
