Production continued from the preceding \u20181959 tube stock\u2019 and was an almost identical design with the same unpainted aluminium bodies, traction equipment and braking systems. Primarily intended to replace \u2018Standard tube stock\u2019 on the Central line, \u20181962 tube stock\u2019 was also used on the Piccadilly and Northern lines.\n\nCentral line trains typically operated in 8-car formations consisting of two 4-car units, the stock remained in use on the Central line until the mid-1990s and on the Northern Line until the type\u2019s withdrawal in the late 1990s.
