This is particularly relevant when the appliances are used in damp environments or outdoors. It will also respond to earth fault currents (within it's sensitivity range) which, if left undetected, could create a fire hazard.\n\nHowever electricity is dangerous and the use of RCD sockets should not be regarded as a substitute for basic electrical safety precautions. Severed cables, frayed wires or damaged appliances, especially those in damp conditions can be fatal and must be re.
