Its quick growth and long cropping season mean you can sow successively from March to July for harvests spanning May to September. For indoor sowing, sow thinly 1 cm deep in trays of pre-watered compost, keeping them in warmth (10–15°C) and moist. Transplant seedlings after the last frost, spacing them 25 cm apart with 30 cm between rows when they have 3–4 true leaves. Alternatively, sow directly outdoors in the final position, 1 cm deep, keeping the soil moist and thinning to 25 cm apart. Ensure plants are well-watered and protected from birds and insects. Regular, small sowings every three weeks guarantee a continuous supply of delicious lettuce.
