Hosta 'Sum And Substance' Herbaceous Perennial Hardy Plant In 9cm Pot
GardenersDream
These Hostas are well-known for their corrugated or ribbed textured leaves. They are deciduous and will lose their leaves at the end of the season. Like other Hostas, “Sum and Substance” form in clumps and do well in partially shaded to shaded areas. They prefer to avoid the strongest afternoon sun. They are very hardy and will reach full growth in as little as two to fives years. It is recommended to thin them out about every two to four years. Their leaves are impressive, but they also have beautifully delicate flowers that appear on stalks that reach outwards from their pale-green bunches of leaves. The flowers are mostly clustered near the top of these stalks in a range of off-white to pale blues and purples. Hostas are appreciated for their robust growth in shaded to partially-shaded areas and compliment other shade-loving plants like ferns. As their leaves are large and uniformly spread out, they are also very good at weed control. Adding mulch at the beginning or end of the season will also aid in their weed prevention. They are used well in shade gardens, as well as along protected border areas.
