70cl / 49.50% - An awesome little find from Aberlour, bottled by yours truly. Distilled in 2009, this single malt matured for nine years in a lovely, mellow old refill butt, allowing Aberlour's vibrant distillate character to shine, where so often it's smothered in sherry. Just 72 bottles join our exclusive Master of Malt collection. 72 bottles isn't a lot. There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, this was one seriously leaky cask, it lost a lot of liquid and the ABV dropped significantly during maturation (not a bad thing. Pure Aberlour spirit character + oxygen + time = delightful.). The other reason for such a dramatic loss of contents might have something to do with warehouse hands, distillery workers, and downright greedy master blenders who visit and sample particular favourite casks in the warehouse a little too often.
