Primrose Astrantia Major Rubra Great Black Masterwort 9Cm Pot Perennial Plant from B&Q

Primrose

Incorporate plenty of organic matter when planting and water well in dry weather, especially newly established plants. Lift and divide large clumps in early spring and apply a generous 5-7cm mulch of well-rotted manure or garden compost around the plant. Divided specimens may take some time to establish since they don't like having their roots disturbed. Pots and Packaging Our 9cm pots are given extra packaging to protect the plant. This extra packaging consists of a recyclable plastic blister pack which is then placed in a cardboard box for delivery. Preparation The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage. Plant on Arrival Typically plants are delivered ready to plant and will take some time to settle, grow and look more like the product image above. Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: fertile, moist, preferably humus-rich Rate of growth: average to fast Flowering period: June to August Hardiness: fully hardy Eventual Height:0.6m-0.9m Eventual Spread: 0.6mSmall, papery, plum-coloured, pincushion-like flowers surrounded by a ruff of wine-tinted bracts, are produced from June to August above deeply lobed, dark green leaves. Although it is an old cottage garden favourite, this Astrantia works equally well in contemporary-style plantings. Use it towards the front of a sunny, yet moist border. Astrantias have been cultivated in Britain since the 16th century and have numerous common names, such as melancholy gentleman, Hattie's pincushion and the more well known Masterwort.
