Plant Theory

David Austin describes this floribunda rose as indestructible. It grows quickly in full sun and fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Fully hardy, it blooms with rounded pink flowers from July to September and shows strong resistance to disease. This tall variety is suitable for both new and experienced gardeners and can thrive in difficult spots. The roses are field-grown and harvested in autumn. They are supplied in pots to maintain root hydration, though they are dormant during winter and will not grow new roots until spring. While they can remain in pots if watered and fed, planting them out promptly is best. They arrive pre-pruned, so only the removal of dead tips is necessary until the following late winter. When planting, choose a time when the ground is not frozen. Dig a hole twice the width of the roots and incorporate composted matter. Applying a general-purpose fertilizer and a root supplement is recommended, especially when planting where roses have previously grown. Position the plant with the bud union at soil level, then back-fill and water well. Maintain regular watering until established and apply rose fertilizer and a mulch of composted manure each spring, keeping it away from the stems. In late winter or early spring, prune away any dead or weak stems. To prevent overcrowding, remove one or two older stems at the base. Finally, cut vigorous stems back to 25-30cm and thinner stems slightly further.
