B&Q - Patio Crab Apple 'red Sentinel' Dwarf Malus On M9 Rootstock Ideal For Pots 5 Litre
Marshalls Garden
Compact dwarf crab apple ideal for patios and small gardens. Malus 'Red Sentinel' produces masses of pale pink flowers in April and May, followed by bright red fruits in autumn that often persist into winter, providing long-lasting colour. Grafted onto M9 dwarfing rootstock and grown to a compact shape, these trees are well suited to large containers and pots. Without routine pruning the tree can reach 2–2.5 m in height; annual winter pruning will keep it short: prune out dead, diseased or damaged branches to a healthy bud, cut back this season’s growth by about a quarter to an outward-facing bud, and optionally remove the central leader to encourage side shoots. Potted trees arrive ready to plant; bare-root trees are delivered in autumn or winter and should be planted within seven days or kept with roots moist. Plant in slightly acidic, moist, well-draining soil with the graft union just above the soil for bare roots. Water regularly during the first year, especially in dry periods, and add mulch in spring to retain moisture and nourish roots. Provides food for birds and bees and adds seasonal interest to small spaces.
