After forming The Spencer Davis Group together, they set the pace for British R&B bands in the mid-60s, topping the UK charts in early 1966 with a cover of Jackie Edwards' reggae favourite Keep On Running. The group returned to the Edwards songbook for their next No.1, Somebody Help Me, at which point Steve and Muff began to seek support elsewhere: the former hiring musicians to help him form his own band, Traffic, the latter as an A&R man at Island Records.
