Felted bases Custom-designed storage box. Own a piece of chess history with the Official World Chess Championship Chess Set - the only set officially approved by FIDE for use in World Chess Championship events. Designed by the world-renowned Pentagram architect Daniel Weil, the pieces draw inspiration from the proportions of classical Greek architecture and the iconic Staunton design, creating a set that's both timeless and unique. Weil collaborated with elite chess players, including Magnus Carlsen and Vladimir Kramnik, during the design process. First introduced at the 2013 World Championship Candidates Tournament in London, these chessmen have since become the gold standard for tournament pieces. This is the same set that was used in the 2018 Carlsen-Caruana match, as well as the previous three World Chess Championship matches. These chessmen are expertly crafted from high-grade boxwood, and the dark side undergoes a chemical process called ebonisation to give them the appearance of ebony without the price tag. Each set is securely shipped in a special storage box to protect the pieces, which includes a foam insert with base cut-outs for each piece. Please note that this is just the chess pieces; a board is not included. Please see here for a suitable board for these chessmen.
