Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser monthly from spring until flowering. Towards the end of September ease back on the watering and feeding of plants in containers to allow the foliage to toughen up. In cold areas, protect the crown of the plant with a deep, dry mulch to protect them from hard frosts, or grow in a pot so they can be overwintered in an unheated greenhouse. Divide plants that have become too big in spring, but remember you will often get more flowers when the roots are constricted. Pots and Packaging Our 9cm pots are given extra packaging to protect the plant. This extra packaging consists of a recyclable plastic blister pack which is then placed in a cardboard box for delivery. Preparation The nursery will ensure the plant is moist while it's waiting to be picked up. Our quality control team waters the plant before packing them where necessary to make sure that the plant is suitably watered for transport. Plants with long delicate stems are secured with canes to prevent damage. The deep blue-purple buds are upright at first, but become pendulous as the violet-purple, trumpet-shaped flowers begin to open. Their intensely coloured flowers work well in bruised colour schemes and the rich green shade of the broad, semi-evergreen foliage creates a wonderful contrast.
