Basic Wormery Starter Kit The Basic Wormery Starter Kit is designed to help you begin vermicomposting using tiger worms. Vermicomposting uses worms to break down organic waste into compost and liquid feed more quickly than traditional methods, making it suitable for gardens of all sizes. The tiger worm, also known as the brandling worm, is highly effective at processing organic waste into nutrient rich compost. Many gardeners choose a mix of tiger worms and dendrobaena worms due to their strong feeding activity and fast composting performance. Coir Bedding For Wormeries And Growing Each kit includes a coir block made from organic coconut fibre and pith. It is Soil Association Certified, sourced from renewable materials and free from chemicals or fertilisers. Once hydrated, the block expands to produce up to 9 litres of bedding. Coir provides an ideal starting environment for worms due to its moisture retention and structure. It has a naturally neutral pH and supports airflow within the wormery. Simply soak in water, allow to expand and squeeze out excess moisture before use. This coir bedding can also be used for potting plants, containers, or as bedding for reptiles and other animals requiring a moist environment. Garden Lime For Balanced Wormery Conditions Garden lime, also known as calcium carbonate or limestone flour, helps maintain the correct conditions inside your wormery. It supports a healthy environment by balancing pH levels and supplying essential minerals. Dusting your wormery regularly with lime can help prevent odours, reduce unwanted pests such as flies, and support increased worm activity and reproduction. Using lime in your wormery helps create stable conditions that keep worms active and efficient in breaking down organic waste. Liquid Feed From Vermicomposting The vermicomposting process produces liquid plant feed within 6 to 8 weeks. This nutrient rich liquid contains potassium, phosphorus and trace elements that support plant growth and soil health.
