CIRCLIPS- Retaining rings and snap rings are fasteners that grasp elements or installations onto a shaft or in a dwelling/bore when assembled in a groove. Once it’s fixed, the exposed piece functions as a shoulder which holds the particular element or installation. USABILITY- Circlips, Retaining Rings and Snap Rings are now integral components of modern engineering design. Commonly used in applications that need a part to turn, spin or pivot where a bearing is used. MATERIAL- Snap rings or circlips are made from very high tensile material carbon steel, they are strong enough to withstand extreme pressure and heat. That is why snap rings used in the assembly of floating pistons hardly fail despite the intense movement of the conrod and the high levels of heat in the chamber. INSTALATION- Use snap ring pliers. when installing the ring on a shaft, you pull the ends apart and release it onto the circlip’s groove on the shaft. Ideally, the size of the section of a circlip is larger than the depth of the groove to which it is installed. This makes a portion of the C-clip remain exposed to act as a shoulder for retaining the specific components or assembly either inside a housing or on the shaft.
