This hardy sunflower really is a giant, where it can reach a height of 10ft! Upon the thick and tall green stems, massive large headed butter-yellow blooms will spring open from late June to early October! The sunflower is absolutely adored by the pollinating insects due to its nectar rich blooms; they are also loved by the birds, as they can feed from the seeds – making this Russian variety ideal for wildlife areas and cottage gardens. You could also create a beautiful summer cut flower arrangement for your home!Where to sow: Outdoors where they are to flower.Preparation: Prepare the ground by raking until it is fine and crumbly, removing any large stones.Sowing: Sow thinly, 12mm (1/2in) deep in drills 45cm (18in).Growing: When large enough to handle, thin out seedlings to 45cm (18in) apart.For really giant sunflowers: Sow indoors individually into 7.5cm (3in) pots late winter/early spring at a temperature of 20-30C (68-86F).
