Ligustrum vulgare is a reliable and fresh hardy shrub that is a grassy green colour, which features plum rich black and deep-purple berries at the end of summer! This semi-evergreen shrub has the added bonus of angelic and dainty pearly white blooms from June through to August for you to admire! A wondrous hedge plant, that thrives in woodland areas and wildlife gardens – Loved by wild life! Grow Privet in any well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Plants will tolerate a wide range of soils, from sand to chalk and clay, and areas of pollution. Ligustrum can be grown as a free-standing shrub or trained as a hedge. Free-standing shrubs will require minimal pruning; simply removed any dead, damaged or diseased growth each spring. Trim hedges in May and again in August. After pruning, mulch plants with 5cm (2”) of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plants.
