Plant out into any well-drained soil in full sun. Achillea plants dislike wet ground, particularly during winter. Improve heavy soil conditions by adding coarse grit or sharp sand prior to planting. Once established, Yarrow is reasonably drought tolerant and requires little maintenance. In summer, stake the tall flower stems with garden canes to prevent drooping and leave faded flower heads intact at the end of summer to enjoy an attractive autumn seed head display. Cut down to ground level when the first frosts blacken the stems. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps in spring. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
