Grow some dramatically different flowers with the almost black blooms of Scabious 'Ace of Spades'! The pin cushion fully double flowers are deliciously dark, with a gentle fragrance. Easy to grow, Scabious are an excellent filler plant for your borders and also make a good cut flower for the home, so you can enjoy their bold blooms indoors too.Sow where they are to flower in April/May 3mm (Vain) deep in rows 30cm (12in) apart in well cultivated soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. They can also be sown indoors in April/May at a temperature of 18-25C (65-75F), hardened off and planted out after all risk of frost. Thin out the seedlings to 30cm (12in) apart.
