Pinch out the tips of new growth while the plants are still small; this will encourage a bushier habit. Once they have developed, gradually acclimatise the plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days before planting them directly into your garden borders or patio containers.Penstemons thrive in a sunny or partially shaded location with fertile, well-drained soil. Once established, they can tolerate drier soils but dislike heavy soils that are particularly cold and wet during winter.
