Thompson & Morgan Tomato Buffalosun F1 - Cordon Variety - Beefsteak - Amber/Gold/Red
Thompson & Morgan
Grow your own delicious tomatoes with the 'Buffalosun' F1 variety, a cordon type that blends classic heirloom aesthetics with the resilience of modern hybrids. These large, beefsteak-style tomatoes feature ribbed, amber-gold skins with a pleasing red blush and attractive marbled flesh. Their sweet, meaty texture makes them ideal for slicing into vibrant summer salads. How to Grow: - Sow seeds indoors from February to April for greenhouse cultivation, or March to April for outdoor planting. - Use a moist, free-draining seed compost and maintain a temperature of 15–20°C until germination (7–14 days). - Once seedlings have developed two true leaves, transplant them into 7.5cm pots, ensuring a minimum temperature of 15°C. - After the risk of frost has passed (late May for greenhouses, early June for outdoors), transplant to their final positions, spacing plants 60cm apart. - Select a sunny, sheltered location with fertile, moist, and well-drained soil. - Support the plants with a 5’ cane and tie the main stem as it grows. - Water regularly and feed with a high-potash fertiliser once fruit begins to set. Remove any side shoots that appear. - When 6–7 fruit trusses have formed, pinch out the tip of the main stem to encourage ripening. - Harvest your delicious tomatoes from July to September. This half-hardy annual is specifically bred for the UK climate and offers excellent resistance to common diseases, including late blight. Its vigorous growth and reliable yields make it a rewarding choice for gardeners of all levels.
