Acer palmatum 'Sango-kaku' is one of the best Maples and can be grown as a large deciduous shrub or small tree. With fabulous looks year-round, coral-red young branches bear 5-lobed leaves, which open pinkish-yellow, turning green in summer and yellow in autumn. In winter, once all the leaves have fallen, the new red shoots glisten beautifully in the winter sunlight. As this plant matures, the stems develop a vibrant red tint.
