Sow seeds indoors from mid-April for earlier cropping or direct sow outdoors from late May to July. Indoors, sow five centimetres deep in 7.5cm pots and maintain a temperature of 18-20°C. Transplant once all risk of frost has passed. Outdoors, sow at five centimetres deep and 30cm apart in well-drained, fertile soil, avoiding freshly manured ground. Support plants with canes or netting and mulch well to conserve moisture.< Water regularly, particularly during flowering, and apply a high-potash feed every 14 days through midsummer. Pinch out growing tips once plants reach the top of their supports. Harvest from July. For the best quality, pick beans regularly and while still young. Suitable for freezing.
