Astrantia major 'Moulin Rouge' is a striking and compact perennial, perfect for injecting deep, rich colour into summer planting schemes. This recent introduction features vibrant red, pincushion-style blooms that rise on slender stems above clumps of glossy, deeply lobed green foliage.Shorter than many traditional Astrantia varieties, ‘Moulin Rouge’ is ideal for the front of borders and pairs beautifully with cottage garden favourites. The distinctive flowers are a magnet for bees and butterflies and are equally admired as long-lasting additions to cut flower arrangements.Grow Astrantia in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Enrich the planting area with plenty of well-rotted manure or compost and water regularly until established. In spring, divide overcrowded clumps to maintain vigour, and apply a generous mulch around the base of the plant to retain moisture and suppress weeds.Height: 45cm (18"").
