Eryngium x zabelii ‘Big Blue’ is an impressive and distinctive Sea Holly, renowned for producing some of the largest and most intensely blue flower heads in its genus. From low mounds of deeply divided, grey-green foliage, stiff steely blue stems emerge in late summer, each crowned with architectural, thistle-like flowers. These blooms feature a prominent central cone encircled by a collar of slender bracts, glowing with an intense metallic-blue hue that seems to shimmer in low evening light.The dried flowerheads remain on the plant well into winter, providing continued interest and striking structure, particularly when dusted with frost or dew.
