A more compact variety but a fast grower, the Escallonia ‘Donard Radiance’ is a great choice for easy to maintain climbers, as they won’t grow too out of control and are easy to prune back. This plant carries relatively large, glossy dark green foliage, which is accompanied by loose panicles of small, trumpet-shaped rose-red flowers from early Summer. Plant in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Keep in full sun in a sheltered position to protect from cold, drying winds. Drought tolerant once established and suitable for coastal regions.
