Known commonly as soft shield fern, Polystichum setiferum is a large fern native to the UK. It is a tufted, evergreen, hardy fern that produces a rosette of soft, mid green fronds with orange-brown scaled stems and midribs. This fern is perfectly suited to a shaded border or beneath trees in a woodland garden. Plant in moist, well drained soil. This fern will tolerate most soil types. Keep in partial or full shade.
