Gardeners Dream Burgundy Lavatera ' Wine' - 9Cm Pot
Gardeners Dream
The “Burgundy Wine” is referred to as a sub-shrub with an approximate size of 2 m. It has palmately-lobed leaves, like an open hand with the fingers being the “lobes”. In the summer time, brilliant pink flowers bloom in abundance. The large, attractive flowers, although without any real fragrance, attract multitudes of bees and hummingbirds. It is a hardy plant which is generally pest free and usually only susceptible to a type of rust. The plant is good for areas like borders and also in informal garden areas which emulate natural or wild flower settings. It can handle temperatures from -10°to -15°C, but sheltered positions significantly increase its chance of survival. This plant is similar to others in the Lavatera group, as once it is established, it does well in low moisture areas and can tolerate drought to a certain extent. Heavy pruning down to about 30 cm is advisable in the late spring in order to encourage the growth of new flowering stems. As the “Burgundy Wine” has a lengthy blooming time from summer until early autumn, it is a welcome addition to any garden with its bright pink flowers and hardy grey and green leaves.
