The “Blue Spire” is a hardy sub-shrub, reaching only small bush or shrub sizes. It reaches it full blooms towards the latter part of the summer and autumn. These blooms are carried by pale-green to white stalks. In addition to the blooms, there are thin and aromatic leaves of a light-grey to green colour. Vibrant violet or lavender-blue flowers reach out on wide, spread-out panicles. These beautiful flowers attract a variety of pollinators due the extremely high number of flowers in a concentrated area. The flowers are small and tubular and are distributed in multitudes across the uppermost portions of the plant. At the end of the season or at the onset of the following season, it is important to trim back the plant to its base in order to ensure the fullest growth. They are able to tolerate poor soils, but need proper drainage and do poorly in wet areas. Additionally, these plants prefer full sun. Importantly, this variety of Perovskia is one of the better species to avoid toppling due to weight or lack of sun. They do well as accents in a rock garden or sunny areas in a courtyard.
