This popular garden herb makes a great addition to borders and flower beds. Its evergreen foliage provides silvery colour interest and texture throughout the year, and, in summer, the dense spikes of vibrant purple flowers add a pop of colour to the garden. These blooms are bursting with nectar and are irresistible to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. The foliage and flowers make attractive cut displays and can be arranged fresh or dried. Lavandula Hidcote is one of the best culinary lavender cultivars. It can be used fresh or dried as a rub or seasoning to add flavour to meats and stews. The flowers and buds can be harvested for making tea, and you’ll notice your drink has a violet hue due to the rich colour of the blooms. English lavender is a relatively slow growing herb, making it ideal for growing in pots - but bear in mind that container plants need watering more often. This is a low-maintenance small shrub that is easy to care for. Plant it in full sun, out of strong winds and ensure the soil is free draining. This variety of lavender is hardy to UK winters and only needs pruned annually to keep its dense, bushy shape.
