However, it is an incredibly frost-tender variety that treats the cold UK winters as an absolute death sentence, and its complex blooms make it completely useless for feeding hungry bees and butterflies. Strict moisture management is vital to keeping this specimen alive and thriving in a plastic basket. It demands 'dry' conditions, meaning you must deliberately wait until the top few inches of the potting compost feel completely arid to the touch. Once the soil has dried out, apply a deep and thorough watering to encourage strong, downward root growth, making sure it never sits in a stagnant swamp of heavy mud.
