Lavender 'Grosso' is a high-yielding hybrid cultivated primarily for the exceptionally strong fragrance found in its large, fat purple flower spikes. This intense, camphor-like scent is much more potent than many English lavenders and is released powerfully when the flowers are dried or pressed for oil. This plant is typically grown as a large, vigorous, hardy evergreen shrub that forms a classic rounded mound of silvery-grey foliage. It is robust and generally cold-tolerant, though it dislikes wet feet in winter. For the best results and the highest oil content, plant it in a location with full, baking sun. It is highly drought-tolerant once established and thrives in poor, gritty, or rocky soil, as it will struggle and become woody quickly in damp, fertile conditions.
