As well as cushioning the spigot ends from impact, the neoprene is very stretchy so that one size will fit any rod without falling off, and will hold the two sections close together. As well as the tip protector, you also get another neoprene sleeve which goes at the other end of your rod to hold the end of the butt and the rod tip together.
