Black Knight spawning brushes make fish breeding simple and practical for pond owners. Suitable for the breeding season, typically from April to July depending on weather, the brushes should be placed just below the water level at the edge of the pond to encourage spawning. Use one mature female with at least two mature males, and position the brushes one above the other to provide a suitable surface for eggs to stick to during the spawning process. Spawning usually takes place in the early hours of the morning after activity in the pond the previous evening, and most eggs will attach to the brushes over several hours. Once spawning is complete, remove the brushes from the brood fish to help prevent the eggs being eaten. Keep the brushes in filtered water at the same temperature, and the fry should hatch in 3 to 6 days. The young fish should be kept separate until they are large enough to be returned to the pond.
