The No. 4-1/2 Smoothing Plane is designed for smoothing and finishing larger stock. A slightly longer, wider and heavier plane compared to its sister No.4 plane. The extra width offers an increased footprint to the sole on your workpiece, increasing stability. A wider shaving is created meaning fewer passes of the plane are required.
