SAGE TRICOLOUR - The Tricolour Sage, botanically known as Salvia officinalis Tricolor is a spreading half hardy evergreen sub shrub, with strongly aromatic velvety oblong grey green foliage with irregular margins of cream and hints of purple when young. This attractive alternative to standard culinary Sage. It can grow to a height and spread of a metre. During the months of May to July, pretty spikes of purple blue flowers appear.POLLINATOR FRIENDLY - This fragrant low maintenance deer resistant plant, is loved by pollinating insects in particular bees and butterflies. Its vibrant foliage brightens up garden beds, pairing well with other sun loving perennials such as ornamental grasses, Dianthus and herbs like Rosemary, Catmint and Lavender. Prune lightly in early Spring to encourage fresh growth to help maintain the plant's compact shape.IDEAL FOR COOKING - Tricolour Sage is great for growing to use in cooking. Its leaves taste of rosemary and pine with hints of citrus and can be used fresh or dried to add flavourful seasoning for meats in particular pork and poultry, sauces, salads and stuffing. It is also popular for use in Italian dishes. As well as being useful in the kitchen, this decorative and functional variegated herb will provide year round interest adding a splash of colour to herb gardens, beds, borders, rockeries and containers.GROWING CONDITIONS - Rich in vitamin A and C, Tricolour Sage is ideal for growing in cottage and informal gardens and in coastal locations. Best grown in well draining soil in full sunlight or partial shade, it can cope growing in poorer soil conditions. This plant is drought tolerant once established but water moderately prior to and post planting. Tricolour Sage needs to be allowed to dry out between watering, as too much excess water can lead to root rot. During the Winter it likes to have its soil kept very dry.
